Stewardship - Mission
The parish is committed to Christian Stewardship both in planned giving and the offering of Time and Talents. We have strong relationships with a variety of mission agencies working at home and abroad. We maintain a policy of giving 10% of our income to the work and ministry of such agencies.
The Mission Agencies and Charities below are a selection from those St Andrew's has been involved with in recent years.
So, what makes Barnabas Fund different from other
Christian organisations which deal with persecution?
We support only Christians ("Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good
to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers."
Galatians 6:10)
The majority of our aid goes to Christians living in Muslim-majority
environments.
We help by channelling money from Christians through Christians to Christians:
MAF are that life-line to villagers and nomads in far-flung areas worldwide. Flying out sick men, women and children to otherwise inaccessible hospital care and flying in skilled medical teams, relief workers, water engineers, Christian pastors and evangelists. MAF reach otherwise hidden areas - crossing deserts, jungles, mountains and swamps - giving hope to communities that would take days or even weeks to reach by land.
The Mission Aviation Fellowship exists to speed the spread of the Good news by word and deed and their flights enable crucial work by aid and development agencies, missions, local churches and other national groups. The MAF aircraft are flying every day their motto `flying for life all year round MAF uses Cessna 206s. The Chief Flight Safety Officer assesses that they have flown more than 100 million miles in total. The plane can take of fully loaded in less than 1000ft. A short take-off and landing option means the 206s needed on many remote airstrips which cannot be extended. Problems can occur with landing strips. The grass can be too long and it is not unknown for the goats to refuse to move.
MAF needs pilots, engineers, managers and IT specialists and a regular flow of interested men and women who will join MAF to serve in the vacancies.
